The Billboard
Michelle Malkin, among others, has drawn attention to an incredibly crass billboard recently found in Los Angeles County, whose legend says:
Certain less than cerebrally-adequate persons have accused Malkin, herself a Filipino immigrant, of bigotry for taking offense at this extremely offensive display. Their dudgeon says a great deal about their own lack of appreciation for the situation; it says nothing at all about Malkin’s entirely justified offense and alarm.
The United States is currently experiencing a quiet, unarmed invasion. That invasion, against which we have mounted essentially no defenses, is steadily remaking Southern California and large swathes of the Southwest into a colony of Mexico. But we mustn’t say anything about this annexation-in-progress—and God forbid that we do anything about it—because it might offend the illegal immigrants!
Imagine the reaction of the Mexicans if the shoe were on the other foot: a billboard on the outskirts of Mexico City that said “Mexico City, U.S.A.” How much amiable tolerance do you suppose it would receive?
What’s that? There aren’t enough American expatriates living in Mexico City to make that a “worthwhile marketing ploy”? Hm. Now why do you suppose that might be?
Remember all the impassioned diatribes you once heard from leftists about “American colonialism” in Latin America? Now they’re trying to argue that we ought to accept Latin American colonialism in the United States with equanimity. They’d better do it at a safe distance; your Curmudgeon is not in a good mood this morning.
UPDATE: This post from Bunker Mulligan is rather relevant, as well.

We Angelenos actually have a mayoral candidate, the current leader in the run-off election slated for May 17, who has been in the forefront of the reconquista movement and proponent for a new Mexican Region to be known as Aztlan.
Their choice of that name Aztlan is a significant warning of the vision of Antonio Villaraigosa. Aztecs priests tore the beating heart out of a victim and then eat it in full view to ritually terrorize their subjects. Substitute “Los Angeles” for “beating heart” and you get the symbolism.
While I dislike Jim Hahn since he was city attorney, I must vote for him out of self preservation. Villaraigosa was my former Assemblyman who rose to be Speaker. Booted by term limits, he self demoted to L.A. city councilman after he lost the last mayoral election 4 years ago. In addition to all his La Raza (THE RACE) thematic baggage, he is a long time ACLU leader.
His good looks and quiet manners have made him a darling of the Left. Family on the east coast tell me of mailers requesting campaign contributions for him. I think if A.V. loses the Left will go bonkers. THEREFORE: please consider all that you can do to help the Left get there.
Hahn, no Republican by any stretch, has nevertheless been endorsed by the Cal GOP. Yet, former “GOP” mayor Riordan is shown in campaign photos with Villaraigosa.
Talk about strange days, eh? Keep your eyes on what is important. Do you want L.A. headed by a charlatan with dreams of Aztlan in his head? What will the Left promote A.V. to do next?
Posted by Pascal on 04/30/2005 at 12:52 PMAt first blush the billboard seems to be nothing but some creative marketing toward a significantly sized niche in the LA television viewing area. But, upon reflection, and closer inspection of the billboard, it is indeed so much more.
it would seem (as I mention elsewhere) the barbarians are no longer at the gate, they are being greeted with open arms (mostly on the left coast) by the left. The longer we leave unchecked, the free flow of illegal immigrants into this country (and this is not restricted to those of Hispanic origin btw), the closer we come to seeing the end of The United States as envisioned by the founding fathers (and those remnants who hold true to the constitution as written).
