Tax Day

By Francis W. Porretto
Francis W. Porretto avatar

In point of fact, for most Americans this isn’t a day to pay taxes. It’s just the day we have to testify against ourselves, in violation of Fifth Amendment protections against exactly that. But all the same, the symbolic significance of the date is considerable.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, please reflect on this essay, which I wrote some years ago. It first appeared at the old Palace of Reason, long gone but fondly remembered.

And pray.
