Era Of Bad Feelings Dept.

By Francis W. Porretto

This is going to cause a whole heap of bad stuff:

The trend of Mom doing more than Dad remains so prevalent that a new book came out this spring called "The Lazy Husband: How to Get Men to Do More Parenting and Housework" (search), and a reality show called "Meet Mister Mom" (search) premieres Tuesday night — in which fathers are left in charge while their wives are away and wind up realizing just how much their other halves do.

"Women are still doing much more than men are, even in households where women are bringing in half the income," said Joshua Coleman, the marriage therapist and clinical psychologist who wrote "The Lazy Husband."

"They still, when they come home, do more parenting and housework than men do, so from the wives' perspective, their husbands are lazy," he continued.

American men have had quite enough of this. If single women would like to know why they're having so much trouble finding (and keeping) "a good man," this is half the reason. (The other half is the "why buy a cow when milk is so cheap?" effect of sexual libertinism.) Persons such as Mr. Coleman are contributing to the problem, not helping to solve it.

Consider:

But we're still the bad guys. It is to laugh.

When reliable sex-selection techniques for planned children become available, your Curmudgeon expects that would-be mothers will select heavily for girl babies over boys. After all, the decision will be left in their hands, won't it? Can't have those nasty old men exerting any control over a woman's precious "right to choose," now, can we? And twenty years later, economics will rear its head, and young women desirous of mates will discover that the demand greatly exceeds the supply.

It's a pity those who've fostered gender-war attitudes among women, such as Joshua Coleman, are unlikely to live to see it.

They can always marry the excess of boys currently growing up in India and China.

Seriously, to take this a bit off topic. In the world swimming championships, I read an article talking about how the U.S. men failed to place anyone in the 100-meter finals. It was blamed on this or that or anything but what it is—Title IX.

  2. According to researchers in the UK, artificial gametes are just around the corner. Once sex selection is perfected, the results seem inevitable.

I expect the last baby boy conceived in a Western country to be born in my lifetime. After all, once they don’t even need our genetic material anymore, why continue allowing more of us to be produced?
