E-Book Reviews Suspended, Hopefully Temporarily
Fran here. I'd hoped to post another E-book review today, but I ran into a problem I'd hoped not to face: despite all the sampling I've done over the past two weeks, I couldn't find an E-book worth reviewing.
The garbage quotient (GQ) -- the ratio of unworthy E-books to worthy ones -- is appallingly high. I'd expected it to be higher than with paper publications, which receive some screening and editing if not an ideal amount. I didn't expect that, out of nearly 2000 E-books in Smashwords's SF / fantasy category, I'd find so few that are actually readable.
I started at Smashwords because that's where I posted my own dreck. It appears I'll have to find other sources if I'm to continue this quixotic enterprise. But this does confirm my central motivation for doing E-book reviews: the medium desperately needs something to substitute for the gatekeeper role filled by the editors of conventional publishing houses if it's to attain respectability.
Gentle Reader, I'd like to enlist your assistance:
- Do you know a source of E-book fiction you'd like to recommend?
- Are there any E-books you'd like to call to my attention?
- Do you know any E-authors whose work generally merits respect?
- Do you think this whole undertaking is hopeless?
I await your input.

There is some real cringe-inducing stuff in there, but you find the occasional gem.
I’m slowly working my way through ‘Which Art In Hope’and are enjoying it!
