Coming to a Community Near You?

By ΛΕΟΝΙΔΑΣ

Item in Atlanta Journal & Constitution

Sunday 20 April 2014 Press Release Atlanta Field Office Federal Bureau of Investigation

Yesterday 4 Deputy US Marshals were detailed to serve an arrest warrant on Philip Gordon 63 of Carroll County in west Georgia. Mr Gordon refused to allow the Marshals entrance to his gated property whereupon the gate was breached using necessary force. During the process Mr Gordon’s 2 Labrador retrievers charged the federal agents and were dispatched. Mr Gordon refused to submit to arrest and brandished an assault rifle accusing the Marshals of trespassing before retreating into his home. The Marshals summoned backup from the local Carroll County Sheriff’s office and two of the 6 responding deputies refused to cooperate in serving the lawful warrant. They were immediately relieved of duty. Additional backup of federal agents in the Atlanta field offices of the FBI and BATFE surrounded the Gordon residence. Repeated demands for Gordon to surrender went unheeded and chemical agents were introduced into the structure. An hour later an unconscious  Gordon was taken into custody and booked into the Fulton county jail on the warrant charging refusal to pay the $15,000.00 penalty for failure to maintain a government approved medical insurance policy.

Something to ponder: What will be your reaction dear reader, when you read the above news item?

  1. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, and this will Godwin me out, but your choice of day and month is not only curious, but well matched to your described event. As for this actually happening to me? We’ll see. I’ve already made my mind up- I will not be buying into this Ponzi scam.

  2. The date(s) were chosen intentionally. See 1775 and 1993.  wink

  3. what would the American people do if such a thing were to occur?

I think we already have our answer, don’t we?

    1993 - Ruby Ridge, Idaho

    1995 - Waco, Texas

Pretty much nothing besides assume the government was in the right, the guy they arrested was a nutjob, and that all is peaceful and right in the world (because it will never happen to them!)

The crimes at Ruby Ridge?  Failure to purchase two $40 tax stamps on two shortened shotguns, and then failing to show up for court to face the charges (and the second one is dubious, because they sent a letter giving himt he wrong court date!)

The crimes at Waco?  Same as above.  They didn’t buy tax stamps on (IIRC) a couple of automatic rifles that they had in their possession.

The punishment for these horrible crimes was to be slaughtered at the hands of a kinder, gentler government.

One thing that does occur to me, though, is that those crimes seem big to the layman.  “Illegal possession of automatic assault rifles” sounds like a really big deal and one hell of a big crime to your typical uniformed American, and so I think they thought that the actions of the government may have been justified.

“Failure to purchase health insurance”, however, well, that may very well be the factor that tips the scales should this incident occur.  Everyone can understand that.  Everyone.

So, I wonder one thing.  If there is a 6 month waiting period to get the government option once you lose your private health insurance, doesn’t that make every person that uses the government option, eventually, in violation of this law for six months prior to getting their gubmint cheese?  (I mean, health insurance?)

  4. Goober,
The Ruby Ridge massacre occurred in August 1992. The final federal assault on the Branch Davidian compound was 19 April 1993 and the Oklahoma City bombing was April 19th 1995.

I was referring to the official beginning of the American Revolution on 19 April 1775 at Lexington and the Waco massacre of 19 April 1993.

Sorry about the confusion. Attribute it to my sense of the dramatic.

Also, I should have given credit to Mike Vanderboegh of Sipsey St. Irregulars for stealing one of the characters from the excellent novella (Absolved) he is writing.

  5. Sorry ‘bout that, Leonides. I was thinking, um, a bit more sinister than Waco. Although, Waco was quite simular to Lidice in style, if not scope.

It seems to me I remember that the Sheriff in Waco had mentioned that, normally, if he had a problem with Koresh, all he had to do was go to the front door of the compound, and check out whatever the problem was. A simple talk, and it would get straightened out.

I guess Reno was afraid all those cool uniforms and toys were going to go to waste if she didn’t use them.
