Advances In Hostage-Taking

Does this report look to anyone else like an attempt to amass a group of "human shields?"

Iran Offering Cash to Travel Agents for American Tourists

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran has said it would offer cash incentives to travel agencies to encourage Western tourists to visit the country, giving a premium for Americans , the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Tuesday.

The proposal is Iran's latest bid to reach out to ordinary Americans in an attempt by the Islamic Republic's political leadership to show that its quarrel is with the U.S. administration — not U.S. citizens.

It came as the United Nations Security Council deliberates a draft resolution that would impose sanctions on Iran for its disputed nuclear program.

"Iran's tourism department will pay US$20 per person to those who attract European or American tourists to the country," the agency quoted Mohammed Sharif Malakzadeh, deputy head of the department, as saying.

Visitors from other countries would earn travel agents US$10 a tourist, Malakzadeh said.

Last week, Iran's fiercely anti-U.S. president expressed opposition to a bill by parliament that would require Americans to be fingerprinted on arrival in Iran.

If your Curmudgeon sought to deter a military strike by a more powerful nation, he'd certainly want as many of that nation's citizens within his borders -- and if possible, within his direct control -- as possible. The nonsense about Iran's quarrel being solely with our government, and Ahmadinejad's apparent opposition to the fingerprinting bill, is just a smokescreen. Eternity Road readers can bet the rent that any American or European who arrives in Iran will, for the indefinite future, be as closely tracked as Iran's secret police can manage it.

Hostilities are coming. Sensible Americans know it, though the Left remains in denial. All that remains now is to watch.

  2. Human shields? They’re obviously trying to recruit decoys. The temptation for us to aim at the ISM (Idiots Shielding Monsters) clowns will be overwhelming and might be used in an attempt to distract attention.
