A Reason They Do Not Wish To Tell Dept.

By Francis W. Porretto

Canada has been steadily enlarging its list of things one is not permitted to say:

A Canadian economist whose reference to sheiks and mullahs in an analysis of oil prices offended a Muslim group in Canada has been sentenced to sensitivity indoctrination in the wake of the scandal, reports Toronto’s Globe and Mail.

Jeff Rubin of CIBC World Markets predicted in April that oil demand will continue to rise faster than supply because “this time around there won’t be any tap that some appeased mullah or sheik can suddenly turn back on.”

The Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations said the language promoted stereotypes of Muslims and Arabs, and demanded an apology from the bank which it promptly received along with promises that Rubin would be more sensitive going forward.

It strikes your Curmudgeon as the most easily verified of facts that:

The prospect of further such uses of the “oil weapon” looms large in our future, as the United States presses forward with the liberalization and democratization of the Middle East.

It’s been said, and truly, that wherever you find oil, you’ll find Muslims. The reasons for this correlation aren’t entirely clear, but the pattern has been established. More, world Islam has made its control of world oil its single non-violent bargaining chip of importance. Apart from a vile “religion” and legions of terrorists, it has nothing else to offer.

But Canadian law, which embeds “hate speech” as a criminal concept, has made it possible for Canada’s large, shameless, and highly vocal Muslim fraction to wield the force of the State against a journalist or commentator who makes public note of any of this. And Canadians roll over for it.

There can be only one reason. It’s a reason that reflects great discredit upon the nation whose troops once helped to roll back two aggressive tyrannies and whose snipers are justly celebrated as among the world’s finest. And it is quite obviously a reason no man would wish to tell.

Of late, your Curmudgeon has found himself wondering just how much longer “the world’s longest undefended border” will hold that title. Which side will be the first to build checkpoints and post troops along it? Will the troops be there to guard against illegal ingress, or to prevent a flood of emigrants, as a certain wall that divided a city in middle Europe once served to do?

  1. This Canadian could not agree more.  But please note that Canucks are not a monolithic bloc.  We Western Canadians are baffled and irritated by the shenanigans going on “out East” as much as you, and probably more so.  Apropos of that, a recent poll conducted by the Western Standard indicates that approximately 40% of Western Canadians think that separation is a viable option (article here).

Wouldn’t that be something: Alberta separates before Quebec!  Mark Steyn would be insufferably smug after that!

  2. Despair is a sin, yet I despair that what was once a fine country is going further and further down into the toilet, never to recover.

The corruption of the government, the strength of the PC movement, the ability of Canadians to accept it all as the country surrenders all good sense is sickening.

    Such a shame.
