A Cold Slap In The Face
Your Curmudgeon is no friend to Islam, as anyone who's been reading Eternity Road for any length of time will already know. Nevertheless, he's tried to remain open to the possibility that American Muslims can be good Americans, and that the open and tolerant society we've erected here might yet transform their violent, xenophobic creed into something the rest of us can stand to have among us.
Apparently, the religious authorities American Muslims consult aren't going to help:
"Marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim [man] is forbidden and invalid – that is a consensus among Muslims. A [Muslim] woman who has taken the liberty [of marrying a non-Muslim man] has removed herself from the fold of the Muslim community – and one who has done so knowing that it is wrong, has done something strictly forbidden, and has committed an open [act of] abomination that may hurl her into the abyss of heresy and apostasy....Woman is weak by nature, and the guardianship of a [non-Muslim] man affects her powers of reasoning. [Marriage to a non-Muslim] may thus cause a woman to follow the ways [of her husband], or at least to abandon her [own] religion and neglect its rituals. [By so doing,] she is neither a Muslim nor one of the People of the Book [i.e. a Christian or Jew like her husband]...
[Marriage between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man] is invalid and despicable, for we know, and anyone who has contact with the Muslim communities in the West knows, that the number of [Muslim] men seeking marriage is growing. When Muslim women behave in a righteous manner and frequent the mosque, they will receive plenty of marriage proposals and have plenty of [suitable partners] from whom to choose...
"The excuse that [the man and woman] share an emotional bond, which comes to justify that which is forbidden, is one of the most despicable excuses..."
The original article, in Arabic, may be found here.
Please remember that a Muslim declared apostate by a recognized religious authority is automatically under sentence of death. More, it is considered a faithful Muslim's religious obligation to carry out that sentence, if he can do so without harm to himself or the ummah. Failing that, since "woman is weak by nature," it would be permissible to kidnap the offender and put her under such stress that she renounces her husband and children to end her torment.
What sort of person would do such a thing? What sort of "spiritual advisor" would place a woman in that sort of jeopardy?
Muslims in non-Muslim nations tend to concentrate in exclaves tightly sealed off from the non-Muslim world. Such exclaves in Canada, Britain, and Europe have succeeded in establishing de facto political independence from the surrounding nations -- shari'a states where secular law is inadmissible. Those who flee from such communities are often hunted down and brought back by force. Muslims in these United States haven't yet attempted such a coup, but there's little doubt that they would if they felt they could make it stick.
Yet we are bombarded incessantly with propaganda about how highly Islam esteems the rights of women. No doubt it's intended to counteract the innumerable real-world citations of Islamic subjugation of women. The Qur'an and Sunnah make it plain that women are to be subordinate and subservient to men, are not to be permitted freedom of action or travel, may be beaten by their husbands for "disobedience," have no rights over the marital bond, and may not be relied upon as witnesses. The rationale? "Women are weak by nature."
Perhaps one must be weak-minded to marry a Muslim man. Judging from the non-performance of their civilizations, the weak-minded are certainly well represented within Islam.
Your Curmudgeon has been castigated as a hate-monger for taking the plain words of Islamic scripture at face value -- no interpretation or sophisticated inference required. We needn't review the other vile doctrines of this supremely arrogant and aggressive creed. Islam's position on women is sufficient to brand it as barbaric and unacceptable. If there are decent Muslims in the world, how could they fail to condemn their creed's tenets mandating the forcible subjugation of half the human race?
Perhaps the inference is harsh. Or perhaps it's just difficult for our tender Western sensibilities to bear. But a nation that cherishes its women, celebrates their independence and moral equality to men, and has codified these things in its laws cannot abide a creed that teaches precisely the opposite. Nor can a decent American trust a Muslim who will not abjure those aspects of Islam at the very least.
